Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document attached to a higher education diploma aiming at improving international transparency and at facilitating the academic and professional recognition of qualifications. It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were successfully completed by the individual named on the original qualification to which this supplement is appended. It does not replace the original diploma or academic transcript, but the full use of the DS provides “the advantage of improved transparency and flexibility of the higher education degree systems, for fostering employability and facilitating academic recognition for further studies.” (The Berlin Communiqué of Ministers responsible for Higher Education, September 2003 (Bologna Process)).
The model for the DS was developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES and subsequently adopted by the Higher Education Council of Turkey. Following the model, a DS is composed of eight sections: information identifying the holder of the qualification, information identifying the qualification, information on the level of the qualification, information on the contents and results gained, information on the function of the qualification, additional information, certification of the Supplement, and description of the national higher education system.
Diploma supplement is being issued automatically and free of charge to all Ankara University graduates of first and second cycle programs.
